Letter for parents

Term 1 Week 10

The end of term has arrived upon us incredibly quickly. We are fortunate enough to have a supportive community who have assisted us in doing so much and connecting with so many. There are many people who continue to let their light shine to provide a safe, welcoming, contemporary learning environment at St Augustine’s. We end a fantastic term having achieved so much in a short time: beginning of year liturgy, Parent Auxiliary activities and fundraisers, MOSA run activities, Advisory Council first meeting, 2024 Prep information sessions, Parent, teacher conversations, Confirmation, 3-6 swimming program, inter school sports Fridays, St Patrick’s day at the cathedral with student leaders, Monday morning assemblies and wards, and school photos along with the many compliance requirements undertaken and staff personal  learning opportunities. Most of all the students have settled in well to their classes and continued solidly with their learning. Bring on Term Two!! Thank you to everyone for being a part of all this and the part you have played in ensuring a successful and rich term!

Last Week our School captains and SRC represented the school at St Patrick’s day mass at St Patrick’s Cathedral. This is an inaugural mass where catholic schools from Melbourne gather to celebrate Catholic Education Week. Our two captains, Christian and Jacqueline proudly processed into the cathedral holding the school flag. Thank you to Jacinta, Eva and Tania for supervising on the day.

Last Thursday we eagerly anticipated the Whole school athletics carnival at Keilor park athletics track. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and the day was canceled. A special thanks to Bridget who worked so hard on all the detail and spent the morning setting up the track only to have it canceled! There were many disappointed children, staff and parents but of course the safety of the children was paramount. Thank you to the staff for using the cancellation as a life lesson for the children. A big lesson in resilience, flexibility and disappointment! Thank you to the Parents Auxiliary who regrouped and continued to provide the hotdog lunch to the children….definitely a welcome reprieve from the disappointment. We will reschedule the day, although it will look different. We will most likely do something at school as finding another day and booking the track again will be almost impossible. It won’t be this term with only 2 weeks to go, swimming starting and Confirmation this Friday! Stay tuned.

We farewell Anna Bird who has been working in 1/2 T on a Friday. Anna will be soon having her baby. We wish her well. Timea Stegner has been the classroom teacher in 1/2T on Mon-Thursday. She will now also work on the Friday.

This Friday our Year 6 children will celebrate Confirmation at St Christopher’s church with Bishop Terry Curtin. The children have been preparing all year with a retreat day last week, family night two weeks ago and a visit from Bishop Terry on Tuesday. We congratulate all the children receiving this sacrament.

Term one comes to an end next Thursday at 1pm (Good Friday the next day). The children will assemble at 12.30pm for the Easter raffle. Easter raffle tickets were sent home earlier in the week. There is one book per family, however, if you wish to purchase additional tickets please see the office. Tickets are 50c each and need to be returned to school by 9am Thursday April 6th. Please ensure you return the ticket stubs with your child/s & family name on the stubb or the name and details of the person who bought the ticket. We are also still accepting donations of Easter related items, chocolate, crafts, gift wrapping & gifts. Please ensure donated items are brand new.

Term two starts on Wednesday 26th April. Monday is a school closure day and Tuesday is ANZAC day public holiday

Have a peaceful Easter and a re energising holiday and may the risen Christ shine His light in us, through us and over us and bring us renewed hope and faith with his Resurrection.
