Welcome to Country

Welcome to Country

Our school was recently invited to participate in a Tree Planting day with Brimbank Council to plant understorey plants in the grasslands around the school oval .The day began with a welcome from  Uncle Bill, an Indigenous elder who performed a Welcome to Country ceremony for the whole school. Throughout the day all students ventured down to our school oval which connects to Taylors Creek to participate in tree planting sessions with Anna and Will from the Brimbank Council.
The Welcome to Country ceremony demonstrates respect for all indigenous people and acknowledges the spiritual, physical and cultural connection their ancestors have with their ‘country’ as the first people of the land now known as Victoria.
The connection to land is a reminder to all of us of the importance of ‘belonging’ and the sense of pride in ourselves and the land surrounding our beautiful school.
