Around the School

Hello there everyone and welcome to the start of term 3. Hopefully everyone had a very big and well deserved rest over the holidays. Over the holidays Mrs Steere got us some NEW footy goals installed, and everyone seems to be enjoying them.

It’s going to be another busy term so lets get stuck into our learning. Remember to try and be flexible (like Flexibel Flynn) and persistent (like Persisent Poppy) when learning gets tough or challenging.

Cybersafety Sessions

Our studentws have once again been tuning in to live streamed incursions (with their teachers) that focus on healthy and safe digital habits. These sessions aim to help children better navigate the online world and become more aware, clever, brave and kind.

Yr 3-6 Term 3 Focus: Cyberbullying, The Power of an Upstander, Navigating uncomfortable situations

Prep -Whilst our Prep students do not participate in live streamed sessions, they will be exploring the basics of ‘Staying Safe in the Online World’ through guided online activities set by the Inform and Empower facilitators with their teachers.

National Water Week 2023

Poster competition

To help celebrate, children from kinder to Grade 6 are invited to explore their own stories and imagination, looking to the past, present and future and create a poster that reflects what it means to them.

Parents – this is a fun and engaging activity to do with your child.

There are great prizes for students and their school or kindergarten.

First prize winners in each category are entered into the state-level competition.

Entries close at 5 pm Friday 1 September 2023.

Winners will be announced at a special event held during National Water Week, 16-22 October 2023.

Naplan Assessments

NAPLAN individual student results have finally arrived and will be sent home tomorrow (Yr 3 & 5 parents only) The new proficiency standards are set to a challenging but reasonable level expected for students at the time of NAPLAN testing. What NAPLAN assesses has not changed.

Reading a NAPLAN individual student report

Student achievement in NAPLAN is reported using proficiency standards for each assessment area at each year level. The standards are set at a challenging but reasonable expectation of what students know and can do at the time of testing. There are 4 proficiency levels:

Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes that are expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

The proficiency level descriptions describe some of the skills and understandings students can generally demonstrate at the time of testing.

It is important to note that individual students may demonstrate different skills or understandings depending on which parts of the tests they performed more strongly in. Students whose results fall near the top of a proficiency level will be able to demonstrate more of the skills, or more complex understanding. Students whose results fall near the lower end of a level will be able to demonstrate fewer of the skills, or less complex understanding.

The front page of the student report provides general information about the tests and an explanation of how to read the report.

The second and third pages show the student’s result in each assessment area. The results are classified into one of 4 proficiency levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support.

The report shows the student’s achievement against the national average for their year (shown as a black triangle) and the range of achievement for the middle 60% of students in their year level (shown as a light shaded rectangle).

The final page of the report provides a brief summary of the skills typically demonstrated by students at each proficiency level. Longer descriptions of the skills typically demonstrated by a student at each proficiency level can be found at proficiency level descriptions.
