Learning Matters

Around the School

In 34  this week, we had a “Book Cafe” where we got to read many different types of books. We ate yummy biscuits and listened to calming jazz music. I loved this experience because it was really fun and collaborative. My teachers were pretending to be waitresses and serving us fake coffees which was really funny! It was also a good way to read new books.   Xavier Cipriano

Cybersafety

Over the last 2 weeks all students across P-6 have participated in the Inform and Empower’ Digital Safety and Wellbeing program.

The sessions focused on healthy and safe digital habits. The aim of these online sessions is to help better navigate the online world safely.

Our job as parents and teachers is to prepare our children to be able to thrive in a digital world. Please continue to have conversations with your child/ren about how they are staying safe whilst online.

Naplan Assessments (Year 3 & 5)

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 3 & 5 students are being run in Term 1 this year. NAPLAN tests will be held in March each year (15-27 March)

NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.

If you have any concerns about your child participating in the Online Naplan Assessments please discuss these with his/her classroom teacher. Extra support/ adjustments can be arranged for students if they meet the criteria.

If you wish for your child to be withdrawn from the Naplan Assessments please contact the Naplan Co-ordinator (Mrs Jacinta Fedoruk). Parents are required to sign a withdrawal form if they do not want their child to participate in the online Assessments.

*Practise tests can be accessed via the Student Learning Links Page

Sustainability

Our 3/4 students have started the trial of our composting program and so far we could not be happier with the results. Already we have seen a noticeable difference in the amount of rubbish that is going into landfill from across the 3/4 classrooms and more importantly we are seeing the students genuinely taking an interest and talking about other ways to reduce the rubbish generated each day. This has been a really great example of how we can make connections with real life situations and students learning. Once we have streamlined the composting system we will be able to roll it out across the entire school. Congratulations to the 3/4 students for leading the way in composting
