Student Leaders Report

Welcome back everyone to Term 3 -only two terms left to the end of the year!

We would like to take this opportunity to encourage you all to wear masks throughout winter due to sicknesses going around. This isn’t a must, although it would be better for your safety.

This term the 1/2s, Preps and 3/4m are all in different spaces because of the renovations happening in their original classrooms. They have settled in nicely. They are doing a very great job at being flexible and persistent. We can’t wait to see the spaces transformed.

Yesterday the Year 6’s went on an excursion to see the musical ‘Strictly Ballroom‘ at St Bernard’s College. It  was really a great show they put on and it was fabulous seeing a former St Augustines student as one of the lead roles.

Another reminder to continue to bring in your old bread bags to be recycled. These bread bags are going to raise money for new sports equipment. Bring as many as you can-ask your grandparents, aunts, uncles and maybe even your neighbours

Make sure to stay rugged up with these cold winter mornings to lower the risk of getting sick. As mentioned before we are trying to do as much as possible to not get sick. Wearing masks is one thing we can all do but rugging up and staying warm also helps stop the spread.

Good luck on the week ahead and stay safe!

Prep Writing

The prep students have been learning to write narratives and what is needed to make a story interesting. The main focus has been on sentence structure and how to improve their writing using more interesting synonyms. This has been a sequential program where the students were required to plan their ideas before putting them into a sentence and use their knowledge of the colourful semantic cues cards, to ensure they included the relevant information. They needed to have an orientation, a problem and a solution. Here are some examples of the amazing writing that is taking place in our prep level.

One dark night, a graceful boy was staring at the haunted house in the dark forest. Stomp! There was a giant coming! He picked up the boy and took him to his home. The boy was terrified. The boy cut the rope with his sharp sword and got out. He was safe and he felt amazing. (Eva Fedele)

Lollipop was a cute and cuddly cat and she was playing with her toy rat in her secret cat room. Suddenly, she saw a giant taipan slivering in her owner’s bedroom. Then her owners came and took it outside. Lollipop was feeling happy and excited. (Millie Norton)

One morning, a scared witch watched the birds in the woods. The witch put a spell on the birds. The man got the wand from the witch and the birds were safe forever. (Aria Livoti)

Spike is a mean cat. He is climbing a huge tree at the park. Spike fell out of the tree from the very top branch. Spike went to the vet then he felt happy. (Parker Bondin)
