Everyone was welcomed back to school with a major overhaul of the landscaping at the front of the middle and senior classrooms. Over the past few years this area had begun to deteriorate with heavy machinery digging in this area as services were being located for the recent renovations. It was well in need of a ‘spruce up’. The landscapers reduced the large garden beds to create a larger area for the children to gather, walk through and work in. Seating and a bottle, filling tap have also been added. The side entrance to the school was also worked on with retaining walls and landings added. The photos show the before and after of the work. What a difference it makes! Come and have a look at the works and see how they connect with the other recent works completed at the back of the school and the two new decks.

The school holidays always provide a perfect time for school maintenance. Our PA system has also been overhauled with a new system in Cooinda. Extra pin boards were also added to areas around the school during the holidays. The school has never looked better!!

Mothers day is fast approaching. Next Friday, 1st May our Parent Auxiliary, will run the mothers day stall.. The mothers day stall will be run slightly differently this year, in that all payments will be collected via spriggy prior to the event, and children will be given tickets to use on the day. Our PA always work hard to providing experiences for the children, often with very few people organising these events. Using Spriggy assists these volunteers to streamline and modernise the event. You can now login to your spriggy account, select your child, select events then order your gift quantity on spriggy. Children will still select their gifts on the day, they will just be prepaid. Upon entering the stall, they will be given tickets for each item purchased. 1 ticket = 1 item. All $7.50 Orders will be cut off on Spriggy strictly at 3PM Tuesday 6th May. Please ensure you get your orders in ASAP as we will not be able to accept late orders on Spriggy. You MUST order quantities per child, not per family as tickets will only be given out in line with orders. Remember, 1 ticket = 1 gift so if you want your child to have 3 gifts select quantity 3 in spriggy, 4 gifts, quantity 4 etc. If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact Claire on 0432 538 556.

Our MOSA group will be hosting a mothers day breakfast on Friday 2nd May starting at 7.00am-8.50am. Mums are invited to come along to celebrate your greatness and have a cuppa and a croissant with other wonderful mums.

We had a lovely ceremony for ANZAC Day in Keilor on Friday morning with our student leaders and quite a few other students in attendance also. Thank you to Mrs Nicole Carland for organing this with students and purchasing the wreath on behalf of the school

Our Athletics carnival was a huge success once again thanks to the precise planning of Mrs Bridget Tadic, the PE teacher. Thank you to all the staff, volunteers and Parents Auxiliary for supporting the children on this day.

Very soon we will be installing a new playground on the back oval, tiered area. Today I met with yr 3-6 class representatives to discuss what they would like to see in a playground. They offered some very relevant and interesting ideas. While I can’t see a water slide installed, other fun, engaging, and adventurous ideas were a possibility. Once I have met with the playground designer I will ask these children to look at the draft plan.

A reminder that all children wear the winter uniform starting next week. The weather has started to be cooler, especially in the mornings. Girls wear the winter dress or pants. Boys wear long pants.

The next step in our transition to the Nforma portal and trying to bring our communication under one banner, (where possible), will be our school newsletter. As of Week 4 we will be publishing our newsletter on the Nforma portal. To access this you will need to open the ‘nForma For Parents’ app, select your child and then select the notices module. From here you will be able to click on the link for the newsletter which will open up a PDF copy. We are hoping that this will make reading the newsletter more user friendly as you will be able to scroll down the page to read all the news rather than having to click in and out of pages.

We started out term having just celebrated the Resurrection of Christ. We also came back to school with the sad news that Pope Francis had passed away. Please join me in praying for this great missionary leader who now takes his final journey to his heavenly Father. For twelve years, our Holy Father has urged a new missionary heart in the Catholic community, cultivating a spirit of Gospel-centred reform, of shared and collaborative leadership, of a simple faith in the risen Jesus who is alive in his Church. Pope Francis has impacted directly on those of us who serve in Catholic education as he has invited us, always through hope, to renew our relationship daily with Christ. Only from this simple trust will we flourish. We pray also to the Holy Spirit to guide those tasked with the election of the new Bishop of Rome, and pray to the Lord so that He blesses Pope Francis’ successor in the time ahead.
