Term 2 Week 2

What a glorious day we had at the Whole School Athletics Carnival on Tuesday. The sun was shining and the scene was set for a joyful and energetic day. The day ran like clockwork thanks to the organisation of Bridget Tadic, our Physical Education teacher, and the staff. Thank you to all the volunteers for your assistance. A big thank you to the ladies from the Parents Auxiliary who organised the hotdog lunch. Always a special treat to have on the day. Congratulations to all our students who participated with enthusiasm, persisted in all their events and chanted loudly throughout the day! I think we had a few croaky voices the next day. Congratulations to our house captains who led their teams through chant practices over the past weeks and gathered their teams on the day. Congratulations to Chisholm on your overall win for the day. We are all very proud of our school and the children, staff and volunteers who worked hard on the day.

Wednesday afternoon the whole school came together to commemorate ANZAC day. Mrs Carland and Year 5/6C organised the service and reminded us of the sacrifices made for our country. We were lucky enough to have a young retired service man, Greg Williams, talk to the school about his deployment to Afghanistan in 2007 and also remind us of the sadness of war and the reasons for us to remember soldiers and those who served in wars. It was a poignant moment as we listened to him speak and be reminded that we still have service people deployed to different countries around the world and how lucky we are to live in a country of peace and freedom. Nicole organised for a wreath to be laid at our flags. This wreath was taken to the 10.30 ANZAC day service at Keilor where our school captains  represented the school and lay the wreath on the school’s behalf. LEST WE FORGET

Mothers day is soon approaching. The parents Auxiliary have organised the annual mothers day stall for Thursday 9th May. Gifts will be available for the children to buy at $5.00 per gift. Ensure your child secures their money in a wallet or zip lock bag to spend on the day.

A Mothers Day Breakfast will be hosted by MOSA (Men Of St Augustine’s) on Friday 10th May from 7am-8.30am followed by a school assembly where the Year 1/2 children will say a prayer for all our mothers and have some special surprises for them. Come along during this time for a coffee, danish/fruit and a chat as we celebrate all our mothers and significant women in our lives

Over the past two years we have engaged with ‘Inform & Empower’, a cyber safety organisation. They provide engaging, interactive live streamed incursions every term for our students and provide teachers with lesson ideas and follow up activities. These sessions have continued this year and have proved essential in the children’s awareness of internet safety. Read more on the Parent page of this newsletter.

We welcome Keely Salter to St Augustine’s. Keely will join our Learning Support Officers team. She will work in 3/4S for two days and in the prep area for three days.

Enrolments for 2025 preps has now closed. However if you know of a family that has yet to enroll please ask them to contact the office. We do not want families to miss out.
